ABOUT AREQUIPA
Arequipa is considered a Cultural Patrimony of the Humanity by UNESCO and is the second most important city in Peru. Located in southern Peru, it lies at the skirts of the volcano Misti.
Arequipa is considered The White City because of the sillar construction. Arequipa is 2350 meters and is surrounded by three majestic volcanoes the Misti, the Chachani and the Pichu Pichu. The Rio Chilli runs through the city.
Arequipa was founded August 15, 1540 and is to date one of the most prosperous cities of Peru. The mix of archutecture and countrysides fills this city with traditions and customs.
Arequipa is located in the South coast of Peru and most of the territory is occupied by a great mountain range.

During August, the weather gets slightly cold at night and at dawn, but the mornings and afternoons are warmed by bright sunshine. Generally speaking, the weather in Arequipa is mild with temperatures fluctuating between 10 and 24ºC. The rainy season lasts from January to March but rainfall is reasonably moderate.

TURISTIC ATRACTIONS
Cathedral Basilica of Arequipa
It was built in the XVII century with a neoclassic style and somee French influences. It has three large doors and inside there is a high altar made in Carrara marble desidned by the Italian Filippo Moratillo.
The Company Cloister

The Church was built in 1968 and outside there are carvings of images such as the two headed eagle. You can also find important paintings of the cuzqueña school by Bernardo Bitti. This fabulous construction shows the typical architecture from XVII century. It is located in the intersection of General Moran and Alvarez Thomas street. Open : Monday to Sunday from 08:00 to 20:00 hours.
Santa Catalina's Convent
This fascinating convent os located on the third block of the Santa Catalina street and is considered the most important religious monument of Peru. It was founded in 1579 under the invocation of Santa Catalina de Sena, but did not open to the world until August 15, 1970. Inside the convent you can find two museums: the Zurbaran hall, and a larger one with more than 400 paintings that are important samples of the religious art. Open : From 09:00 to 16:00 hrs the 365 days of the year. Price : Entrance $ 4.00
Santo Domingo
This beautiful church was built in 1667. The building represents a baroque style. This beautiful temple is located in the corner of the Santo Domingo and Pierola streets.
San Francisco
Colonial architecture from the XVI century, forms the the San Francisco's Temple. It is located in the second block of the Zela's street. The temple was founded in 1552. Much of the building is preserved such as the beautiful altar. Here yo can also enjoy an art gallery from the cuzqueña's school. Open : Monday to Saturday from 09:00 to 12:00 and from 15:00 to 17:30 hrs Price : S/. 4.00
San Agustin
The church of San Agustin was finished in 1576, and was almost destroyed by the earthquake in the 1868. In 1899 the church was rebuilt and reopened, and later in 1985 declared "Sanctuary of the Lord of Miracles". It has a beautiful carvings and represents the architecutre of the baroque time period. It is located in the corner of San Agustin and Sucre streets.
La Merced
La Merced convent was built in 1607. In the lateral facade you can see the image of the Virgin de la Merced. There is an art gallery with Spanish and mongrel paintings. Open : Monday to Friday from 08:30 to 12:30 and 15:30 to 18:30 hrs. Sundays mornings.
Santa Teresa
The Convent and Temple were founded in 1710. It is located in the corner of Melgar and Peral streets. You can visit the temple in the mass hours Monday to Sunday from 07:00 to 08:00.
